WEEK #6 Eureka Moment

My Eureka Moment came to me while watching an episode of Maury when I was home sick this week. (HAHA) I could not understand a few things.....1) Why would women you slept with so many men that they already tested 10 guys who were NOT the father continue to embassess themselves on national television. 2) WHy do people feel like it is a good time to reveal to their husband/boyfriend that they may not be the father to further embrass them not just with their family but all of America? My Eureka Moment is this...women no longer feel modest, afraid or anything when it comes to sex. They have no shame in the fact that they have no clue who the father of their child is. This brings me back to my project where old Tv shows would show 2 seperate beds for husbands and wives NOW these women are bringing 10 guys on Tv to figure out who the father is. Is crazy to me especially since the window to concieve is not that big...so within a small period she slept with that many people. WHERE DID OUR SELF RESPECT GO??? that is what I felt like jumping through the tv and saying.

There use to be a time when women did not talk publicly about their sex lives. Anything done in the bedroom was private and if she did have an intimate relation it was done discretely. Now days there no such thing as keeping your business private; some people just don’t care. For me it’s about morality, there so many forms of contraception out here for men and women that if used prevents people from getting into these types of situations. It’s a shame how television exploit these individuals for ratings and they are too blind to see that the TV networks are using them. The bottom line sex sells we see it every place, every where and all the time. These television shows wouldn’t do this if they didn’t have viewers so everyone is at fault for fueling this insanity. I feel sorry for the poor children who are innocent in this craziness.

Do you think these paternity situations that we see on these kinds of shows are gendered based or culturally based or both? If it is an issue of a lack of self respect, do you think it relates back to a gendered definition learned in their culture and or family? And, why are these shows so popular? And, what harm do they do to perpetuate these gendered stereotypes?
